Default Is it really Solingen razor???

    Hello,

I found sth like this: http://www.solingen.pl/product_info....roducts_id=509

What do you think about it? It costs 20 USD so looks really cheap as for real brand new str8 razor, doesn't it?

    Cheers

It seems that the general rule of thumb for razors is this: "if it is to good to be true, then it probably is." Even the least expensive Dovos are around 50 USD. I wouldn't expect to pay less than that for a new razor of notable quality.

    Default I second that motion.

In my less than experienced opinion, I would think that if it's a Solingen razor it would indicate that somewhere on the blade. Both of mine do.

    Just my $0.02

They don't claim the razors are from Solingen - "solingen.pl" is the name of the website and the company, which is in Szczecin. A fine distinction, perhaps; razor-thin, one might say, but there it is.

Also, if you "kliknji" on the picture, you'll see that the logo looks like a decal that was put on crookedly.

There are a few other Best Brands on the net. Here's one: http://www.pagebydave.com/knife/straight_razors.htm from which it appears that the 65 zloty may be on the high side.

Finally, here's an online Polish-English translator http://www.poltran.com/pl.php4 (vowels cost extra).

    You are all right, guys!
The only thing that could piss me off a little is they chose the name od their internet shop as 'solingen' ans people could maintain that they sell Solingen made products, which is not true but can lead into error the buyers...
I'm Polish so I don't need translator to check their offer :-) You are right, there's no proof they try to sell this BB as Solingen one. But it's tricky anyway :-)

Isn't there a Paki brand razor called Szco, or something like that? I recall a guy hawking those awhile back on the Yahoo site. He was sent packing.
I don't know the language, but Szczecin looks too much like Szco to me. Just a bad feeling. Stay away from those razors. There are too many other well known name brand, good razors to buy at a reasonable price, whether new or used.
    My 2 cents.

I actually once bought a very, very similarly looking razor on ebay. Even with the same "etching".
When I got it I was shocked!!!

This wasn't a razor for me: thick blade, coarsely ground edge, not even sure if it was steel or forged at all, thin plastic handles, sloppy "etching" or colouring.

I luckily managed to get rid of it on ebay again, not declaring it as a razor, of course, because that would not have been fair.

    Best regards
    Martin
