I have totally fallen for my Friodur 5/8 blade. I can't wait to get a big blade version. They are a real pleasure to shave with and the steel is shiny and clean every time.
Tony, did your price go up on these? I thought they were 99 or so. Are you getting more in?

I think Tony was just saying that you could, for the same cash (or less) get the larger+Friodur blade he's offering... not raising his price (or I could be wrong )
Bigger is not allways better...but I think I would perfer the Friodur if the price was in the same point (or possibly less by about $50 )
I'm just excited to see: 1) Zwilling Razors being offerend in the US again and 2) Straights at NORDSTROMS of all places

I really like to mix it up a little as far as blade size goes, but lean toward the larger ones now. My best shavers are 7/8, 8/8 on an absolute basis, but I still enjoy flying around with a 5/8 Duck or this Henckels I finally got keen.

Thanked: 0i passed by the zwilling henckels store today. I have to report that the letters in the tang are not indented/stamped into as it is traditionally, but sort of printed. It isn't exactly the same as pictured in the nordstrom pic, but close. If i remember it right, "74 &1/2" is printed just below the heel and the word "germany" is smaller. the twin logo and 'friodur' written in script letters in the scale are black. Funny, the ribbing (right term?) is on the tang's bottom instead of the top as opposed to the nordstrom's.
maybe i'll post a pic for you guys if/when i buy it. (Tho i'm really not too excited buying a 118$ stainless razor even if it's 40% off right now. And, the weekend woodworker in me has ingrained the thinking that carbon steels are superior to anything when in comes to edge tools, albeit being rust magnets that they are. I'll be toying with my ebay, pre-1969 carbon henckel first when it arrives...)

Thanks for the update. Makes me wonder if the 'new" Henckels are being made under contact by another German razor maker now. Dovo will do contract work for other brands and usually the new brand name is only etched into the tang, not stamped.
It is not uncommon in manufacturing for companies to discover it is cheaper to farm out products will limited appeal to those making large runs. They keep their brand name in the market but don't have to make the items.
Hen & Rooster is an example. Some are of their knive and the razors are made in Germany and are marked as such. Others like the kitchen cutlery and certian knife lines are priced at half of the others in their product line and are marked as being made from Solingen Quality Steel. German steel, Chinese or other labor and manufacturing. Most consumers just recognize the brand and buy without really reading.

Thanked: 0It’s a possibility they’re subcontracted like you said Mr. Miller, (but then again they’re friodurs which afaik is proprietary to henckels.) At any rate, I had a feeling that something’s amiss which is why I walked off the store w/o buying any.
Right now, there are 5 no-stain, friodur henckels that I see on ebay. All of them are stamped. One even has a detailed decoration on the blade.

Altec,
I hope no one thought I was implying they were NOT real Henckels razors. I simply meant they are marked differently that the ones we are accustomed too and maybe being made under contract by another German maker would be one reason or Henckels simply decided not to use their original and well done markings.
I guess I am just a bit dismayed at all the famous brands that are no longer or famous names no longer being produced by the parent company or instead in some place far removed from their original home and hoped this was not the case with the Henckels you found.
I was looking at beautiful Skagen watches the other day and their "Skagen Denmark" name on the dial. I also later found out they were made with Japanese movements in China. Somehow they lost the appeal they once had. Instead I bought a nice looking Lorus with a similar dial in Walmart for $34 <g>.
