Welcome. If you think you have it bad now, wait until you get your first, good str8 shave. There is a learning curve, so be patient. Once you get the hang of it you won't want to shave with anything else. Here you will learn everything you wanted to know about str8s, but were afraid to ask.lol

Thanked: 0Welcome! I too have just started and am rapidly falling into the trap of straightoholism. Although I would have given up if it wasn't for help from these guys so stick around and they'll give you all the guidance you'll need

Thanks for the welcome, gentlemen. To answer the questions:
I am on the West Island area of Montreal.
As far as being equipped I probably overspent. I got my gear (brush, strop, hone, etc.) at the begining of November from classicshaving.com, before going through all the info on these forums.
Could have done better after reading the forums, like a strop from Tony instead of a Dovo and a 3" Norton 4k/8k instead of the 2" that I got.
I consider the less than optimum purchases as part of the learning curve with the only impact being some money and ease of use. As we all know these are far from my last shaving expenses. More hones, strops and brushes are sure to follow.
On the bright side, I am saving $200 (about $160 US) per month on smoking which I kicked in July. I figure I can invest half the savings into the new hobby (read addiction) without breaking the bank. Although I am now a few months ahead of the projected savings curve.

Hey!! I just realized that I saved $4800.00 after-tax since I quit smoking two years ago!! Hot Damn!
Breathe...... I will not buy a razor.....I will not buy a razor......
Welcome aboard. You won't think twice about your strop and stone. You got great stuff and will enjoy every minute.

Thanked: 2209Welcome!
I hope you had the razor honed. It will probably need it.
Gentlly strop the razor for 35 laps before your first shave and be sure that your shaving prep is first rate.
