I don't find that a rounded bevel gives a more forgiving shave; but, I'm an old guy with an old guy's skin, which means that it may not be all that sensitive.
Regarding paddle vs. hanging strops, it really is just a matter of personal opinion and personal preference. A LOT of guys use hanging strops and are quite happy with them. My advice is to try them both after you've gotten a little more experience. So much of the straightshaving art is just a matter of following your own instincts and going with whatever gives you the most pleasure. For example, to me, it's important that my razors, strop, etc., look good -- if I don't enjoy the way they look, I don't care how well they function, I won't be happy with them. There are other folks, however, who aren't all that concerned about appearences but are real fanatics about functionality. So, bottom line, experiment at every opportunity and enjoy yourself. None of it is rocket science.
