Thanked: 0FROMM fancy handle razor and strop
Just got myself this:
http://www.frommonline.com/catpgs/pg...mNumber=305000
http://www.frommonline.com/catpgs/pg...mNumber=300000
The quality seems good, however doing the hair test the hair just passes right over it??? Presume I need to hone this razor right?
Trying to source a Norton stone in OZ will be interesting.Last edited by thesaint13; 11-25-2005 at 08:33 AM.

Those look tops, Saint. I'm sure you'll be having many great shaves with that razor.

I have 2 of the Fromm 50R razors. They are most likely Dovo's made for Fromm. They do need to be honed before you shave with them. I have gotten great shaves using them. I use the 2 I have as travel razors. They're good razors, but inexpensive enough that I can replace them if they're lost. I'd hate to loose one of my more expensive razors.

Saint.
Did you buy the razor directly from Fromm? The fancy model 50 is supposedly discontinued but there are a few dealers that still have a few. Oddly whenever I get my model 72R (I am a Fromm dealer) there have been a few of the model 50s included although a slightly different version. They insist they have none to sell but obviously the stock guys can find a few.
I have sold many of the fromm razors and all have needed honing first before shaving. That said so will just about every Dovo and 85% of the TI razors too.

Thanked: 0Thanks chaps for your posts.
I got the FROMM from a local hair dressing supply store (Brisbane). They supply lots of interesting barber stuff - all those original barber aftershaves, creams and the like.
Mind you, prices here in Australia are more expensive than in the UK and USA, so you guys probably get things much cheaper. The UK seems to have some excellent stuff which I want to source in the near future...
Tony, do you want me to ask them if they have any more fancy handle FROMM's?
I am not sure how cheap it would be to buy from Australia - the FROMM razor cost me $85.00 AUS - so this might be much more than what you would pay direct from FROMM?? Mind you, the DOVO's over here start from a very basic looking razor for $95.00 to $199.00 for a nicer item... and the sellers tell you all sorts of things that go against what I have read on this site. One chap told me that I needed to place something under the razor when you hone it to get a better edge!
