Is it over
OK, about 20 years ago my wife bought me a boar brush and shave bowl. Both have been great over the years, the bowl is pewter and conducts heat really well so keeps my lather warm for three passes. Over the years the brush has just got better and better, every hair has a split end and is now soft on the skin yet firm enough to create a great lather. The problem is, I have recently noticed the brush is now starting to shed. It,s losing about half a dozen or so a shave. Is this the beginning of the end or can I save it somehow? With all the experience on this great forum, anyone have a solution. Thanks in advance.

I don't know if it will quit but I have had a brush do that and it eventually stopped. It didn't shed at all for a couple of years and then started shedding between 6 and 12 or more hairs in one shave. I used it every other day for a while and one day it stopped. This was after an awful lot of bristles had gone but it still is plenty dense. All I can say is hang in there and hope for the best.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 259if it is a handle that you really like, a new nib may be placed in it. i think the web site is goldennibs.com. fairly inexpensive. i have a couple of vintage handles that i am having restored with new badger hair bristles..check out the "workshop" here and look around. you might find something you would like to use...good luck

I think your right, if it gets too bad a new knot is the way to go. I already have a couple of badgers but one more wouldn't hurt. Ideally I would like to save it but if not a new knot and a new boar will have to be acquired.

Golden Nib sells boar knots now actually. I asked about them and have heard good things back. I think they are about $8...
