Newby beware.........Mother of Pearl vs. Cracked Ice
Yesterday while surfing eBay I found two razors that were described as
having Mother of Pearl(MOP)handles/scales. I asked the sellers if
these were really MOP and both answered that they did not know for
sure. One answered that he did not know that there was a Cracked Ice
pattern. After showing both some pictures of each both changed their descriptions to Cracked Ice celluloid/plastic. The celluloid/plastic
can be made to look a lot like MOP but there is some difference.
However, both are nice looking but sometimes the MOP will add more
value than Cracked Ice depending on the razor.

Were they Pakistani razors? Stay away from the Pakistani razors.

No, they were legitimate razors. The sellers didn't know that there was a difference between the two types so called them MOP. They changed their descriptions with a thank you they were actually nice about it.

Exactly, the scales on the two razors were actually "Cracked Ice" plastic/celluloid which can look like MOP. There are, however, some celluloids that look a lot like MOP.
