Tim,
Welcome to the boards. Tons of info here that will be helpful, as well as helpful "professionals" who really know what they are talking about. That Dovo is gorgeous, put it to good use!

Thanks everyone! You all really make newbies like me feel so welcome! The Dovo is definitely getting put to good use - I'm actually happy to hear all of the positive comments about it, even though it's stainless. As it was a gift, I didn't have much choice
Also glad to hear about other's experiences with the chin. Mine is particularly dangerous due to my deep dimple, so for now I go real gently with the straight, without really shaving much. Just getting the form down until the Norton arrives. I'd like one of Tony's 4-sided pre-pasted strops, but I'll have to keep the spending in check on this new "hobby" - don't want to go overboard too soon! I've already mentioned that I want to hit up the antique shops and flea markets around town (lots of them here) and received a curious eye from the wife...!!!

Oh yeah. I can not go onto ebay anymore. I just bought a nice Dovo from a member here on ebay. I will have to sneak it in the house. Kind of like golf clubs!! Oh boy am I in trouble LOL....

Don't fret that you got a stainless razor that just happens to be one of the most classy razors in current production (strictly my opinion there)
I think you'll be very pleased with that razor in the long run, and with proper care it will be around to shave your grandchildren.

I think the stainless issue is a bit of a trade off. You don't have quite as much malleability as with regular carbon only steel, so it can be more challenging to hone and some have reported, less "smooth" a shave (the jury's likely still out on that last point). That durability pays itself off in how long it keeps the edge and resists rust. That's all guesses thogh, but it seems logical.

The SECRET, Rich. sssshhhhh....
Headcovers man! My wife never looks in the bag, and at a casual glance, nothing is amiss when I acquire a new Scotty putter, etc. I just don't use the headcovers that come with them. Generic is fine for me, keeps my wife's eyes (and wrath) at bay, as well as people with sticky fingers when your clubs are on the rack. Now to find headcovers for razors and brushes ;-)
