Thanked: 199Barber School 2010!
Well, as some of you know, I said I was going to go to Barber school up here in PA.
Yesterday was my first day, and it seems like it's a good group of people up there!
I'm going to be keeping a "Journal" of the experience, so if any of you are interested in reading it, the link will be below. Obviously not all of it will be about shaving, but if you're at all interested, check in from time to time. I'll be making little videos as well to demonstrate "exercises" they want us to practice to get the dexterity up
Paradise by the dashboard light...

Thanked: 1992 days down, and I can tell that the group of people there are good people. Funny, and determined. Already freaked 2 people out by telling them I shaved with a straight
Cheers!

Thanked: 13Good luck with school. I would be interested in reading your journal as you go along in school.
It's a great job if you like working with people. One thing that I like about it is that many of my customers have become lifelong friends and one thing that I hate about it is that it can be very hard at times as well. I work in a busy 2 chair shop and I myself average about 3300 customers in a years time and thats with taking 5 weeks vacation a year. So there can be times when it's very busy and after a good Saturday when I have done 25 customers by 3PM I am totally wiped out.
The thing I like the most about it though is face shaving. To me it's a dying art and a challenge and I take my time and do a good job.
I wish you luck and I look forward to reading your impressions of school.

Barber School 2010
Hello, Rob:
Congratulations on a successful beginning.
Since I am sure you also carry the spirit of the old time barbers and barbershops, adding that to all the modern trimmings you will encounter should make you an exceptionally good and creative craftsman.
Well done. I look forward to hearing of your progress.
Regards,
Obie

Just curious, I live in York, PA and work in Harrisburg, are you by chance going to BSI?

I'm following your blog. I'd be curious about the school. Cost, time, what the instruction is like . . . etc.
