    They are very helpful if your honing Ebay specials up often or if your getting frustrated with the quality of the shaves. The thumb tests serve well but take either practice or just talent. For me a scope is very helpful. But once a good bevel is produced you need not ever look through a scope again. I do use them to ensure that I have perfected the edge of a razor I am honing for someone else though as I'm sure they expect quality work.

    Got my 60-100X from Radio Shack yesterday. Inspected my TI for nicks, etc. the bevel looked perfect throughout and the razor easily passed the hanging hair test. Can't ask for more than that, except maybe for more experience using my TI. But that come with practice. And that's half the fun.
