Geez, the thing has been honed down to a nub. Or broken. Or something....

I'm pleased to see there are no bids.

That's incredible. I can't believe someone would actually list that. I mean the handle might be usuable, but the blade is completely gone.

Actually I've dicovered there IS a market for this sort of thing...wood carvers make old razors into carving knives by breaking off the razors edge to a point where the blade is thick enough to provide a stable KNIFE blade but it still retains a level of extreme sharpness and the blade is thin enough to glide through their work effortlessly. Obviously they sharpen the blade once the thin edge has been removed and cut off the monkey-tail so that the shank can be mounted into a larger handle and pinned often through the razors original pin hole.

That's right, I had forgotten that. I think I have a knife in my collection that my Dad made from some old sharp thing. Wasn't a razor, I don't think, however.

Gee, I don't know what you guys are complaining about. Obviously none of you are very competent at honing because if you were you could restore any of those razors to like new condition with minimal effort.

    And you consider yourself honemeisters.

So, in the interest of derailing the thread, do you do any woodcarving? I used to - still have all of the knives, the stones, and the strop. Every once in a while I think about picking it up again, but time is a bit limited.

I wanted to carve as a child...but lacked the tools training and talent. It never took off as a hobby but to be totally honest I think it was just another phase in my obsession with blades. My whole life I've been enthralled by anything sharp. I even think it's possible that I cook because of the myriad of options there are in that category of knives. I'm a sucker for sharp objects plain and simple. And of course anything sharp AND useful get's a double good mark in my book

i have saved a few notable auctions (the good ones, and the very very bad ones) in my drive. Perhaps superfly ain't kidding when he said he's hurt a bit when he sees these kind of pics, it pains me to see broken razors myself that should have been nice... but on the flipside i think some captions for them and try to see the lighter side...

Geez, louise... That looks like somebody tossed it into the fireplace. I don't think you could even salvage the scales.

I'm sure it was advertiesed as being in "OMG! PERFECT CONDITION! A RARE COLLECTORS FIND!".
