    Default TI Super Gnome

I have been looking at the TI Super Gnome at
Classic Shaving. This razor is a half hollow
ground. How greatly does a 1/2 differ from
a full hollow ground? Or would the full hollow
TI Evide Sonnant Extra be the better option.
I am loking at the 6/8 if this would make a
    diffrence.

    Regards,

    Terry

If you have light beard, go with the Evide Sonnat. If else, the Gnome might be the right tool for you. At least you should try the 1/2 hollow... I would do that, anyways...

    Superfly,

Only one week into this and already itching for another
razor even though the one I currently have is perfectly
fine. It's so hard to decide what my next one should be.
The only problem with ordering a new one is I will have
to pay someone on this forum to hone it. So I suppose
the smart thing to do is buy a used shave ready razor.
Really don't care if it's a TI or Dovo, in a way the older
no longer produced razors are just as cool if not cooler.
A razor with some history under it's belt.

    Regards,

    Terry

With the new production razors you know what you get. Bot DOVO and TI produce nice razors and superb shavers, too... The TI is considered somewhat better, and I know the upper DOVO models are not up to high end standars, regarding scale manufacturing and finishing touches. The steel is excellent, though... Lynn was mentioning that DOVO had some structural problems, only one old master grinder left. With the old razors there's a bit hit and miss, but you can score some nice pieces for great price. But even the starter DOVO and TI models are super razors and nice prices, too. In the upper class you start paying more for the horn scales, exotic woods, gold plating, fancy spine carving e.t.c. So go get yourself a nice 6/8 DOVO Special, or a TI Super Gnome or Evide Sonatte, and start shavin' big.

I don't agree with you on the Dovo's. I have two and they are both excellant shavers and the scales are also top shelf.

    Superfly,

I believe I will order the TI Evide within the next few days
from classicshaving and have it sent to Lynn for honing.
If I was to do a used razor it would be from one of the guys
in this forum. That way I would get a good quality older razor.

    Many Thanks and take care,

    Regards,

    Terry

I absolutely love my two ~60$ DOVO's Specials and I cannot recomend them enough, but the scales on my 120$ DOVO Micarta (No.105) are POS. Lousy shaping, lousy finish, awful fit, the guy who made them doesn't understood the mechanics of the razor scales The scales on the specials are cheap no-spacer plastic scales, but they do their job fine... Too bad that DOVO razors that need more hand work (upper class ones) are not up to DOVO's steel quality...

I have no doubt I will end up with a Dovo Special as well.
But that Dovo Buffalo Horn sure looks good..... Will have to
maintain self control here - scales don't shave - only the blade.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Default TI Evide Sonnant Extra

I have a heavy beard and my TI ESE shaves great. In fact, it's probably in my top three as far as shave performance goes.
