Thanked: 1Anybody use Nivea?
I got into straights because I love sharp objects. It's something I can take pride in because so few of us shave with a single blade anymore and even fewer shave with a single blade exposed at our throught with nothing but a careful touch between serious injury and the finest in shaving experiences. However I've noticed many of us tend to show tree-hugger tendancies and Big Brother complexes that I had never considered until I got involved here and took up straight shaving full time. Why is it so many of us seem to rebel against things manufactured by "The Man" rather than taking advantage of what good there is to combne with our new passions?
Most of us use hard to come by products that most often you have to order online unless you are lucky enough to live in a select locale that has the products available. I'm not so fortunate and therefore I started out with a Nivea after shave balm. Not particularly fond of the smell and it wasn't what I had hoped for, but it did a good job of moisturizing and keeping my face from feeling chapped or razor burned. I was using an astringent cleanser from Noxema in addition to the balm because I liked the cooling sensation of the menthol contained in the cleanser.
Yesterday I picked up a bottle of Nivea Cooling balm because it has menthol IN it...just finished a shave a few minutes agao and I think I've found a VERY luxurious after shave. Anybody else dig the off the shelf products too?

I use Nivea in my rotation. I prefer Baxter A/S Balm and Proraso Pre/Post Balm, but the Nivea is a good product.

I've tried the Nivea facial scrub and their moisturizer. The facial scrub was good, moisturizer not so much... felt kinda greasy afterward. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: discuss moisturizers with your woman. Not only do they have incredible products, but you're asking for their help. Mondo brownie points

My personal favorite moisturizer, not taking into account shaving is Clinique. Definitely a quality product!

Clinique has some really nice products. I'll sometimes sneak some of the wife's Moisture Surge when she's not looking.

Thanked: 0I had a bottle of it in my hand the other day and passed. Only because I was not sure . . . Thanks for the post, I think I will try it.

Nenad (Superfly) brought something to my attention last September about the Nivea. Make what you will of it, but it was enough to make me toss it....

Yeah RT good point! I had to try the old Penhaligon's though, curiosity got the better of me. Just once. I was a big fan of the Nivea for a couple of weeks, and hated to give it up. Couldn't help thinking about what that website said. It's probably nothing that would ever make a difference, but things like that stick in my mind and bother me, so I had to let it go. I saw a commercial for Aqua Velva balm the other day, I want to give that a try.
