    Default Converting People

    Hello, everyone:

I have been fortunate enough to convert several people to the double edge razor. The straight razor is a tough sell.

Mine has been through action rather than annoying persistence. This has been mostly at the health club.

Men have seen me use both the straight and the double edge. They have made various comments out of curiosity. I have gone into detail about the benefits of using such razors, adding, "Anytime you want to start, I'll be more than happy to sell you some of my products or point you to the various shave sites. What's more, I'll be more than happy to train you."

My approach has never failed with the willing curious.

    Regards,
    Obie

    Default It's a hard sell..!

I've converted a few over to DE, but the str8 is a whole nother story. Then most that I work with are 15-20 years younger than me and they spend too much time chasing that almighty dollar. Slow down, enjoy life a little bit before it's over. They don't see it that way. Always in a big hurry to go nowhere. Don't get me wrong, I like money too, there is a bit more to life than money. I was never much of a follower anyway. Trendy things isn't me. I like being different. That being said, when there is 3 or 4 of us shaving in the mornings, and they are using their Fusion or Mach whatever, and I'm using the str8 and finish at the same time, tends to tweak curiosity. Then when 5PM rolls around and they have stubble and I have very little, their interest is again peaked. Just not enough for them to try it. Too much trouble, slow, and costly. Well, maybe, but not if you do it the right way. That's okay, I thoroughly enjoy using the str8, not that I don't use the DE on occasion, it fits me to a tee. AND, I'm not in any hurry.!

I agree with Obie-Wan. It's a tough sell. I don't aim for conversions. That's a bit too much like missionaries selling God to people who have more than enough Gods to go around
On the other hand if someone is interested & wants my help, well then , they might just be crazy enough to shave the noble way.

I have had a great deal of success getting acquaintances to convert to DE razor shaving, though they have not yet taken the plunge into str8 razor shaving. Patience, patience...

I have a friend who I persuaded to convert to a DE last December. He wound up purchasing DEs for his older brother and his two sons.

I also have a colleague at work who I convinced to switch to a DE razor.

By all reports, they love their new razors and the close, smooth shaves they receive from them.

This is kind of like converting somebody to Christianity. You expose the idea, provide fertile soil for the idea to take root, and God does the rest.

So I tell somebody I learned something new. After the initial shock, they ask a few questions. And then, the seed it planted. No converts yet, but I have a few on the hook.

You could always try the Tom Sawyer method. "Oh, this is straight razor shaving. It is extremely difficult. Only REALLY talented and creative people can do this. I would show you, but it is too difficult for somebody like you!"

Hmmmm. That doesn't sound like it will work either.

Well, so far, I have converted three to straight shaving and three to DE shaving. I suspect that one of the new DE shavers will try straight shaving, eventually.

Converting to DE shaving is easy (the cost saving alone will make them give it a try). Once they try DE, they are hooked! It's really an easy sell. Straight is a tough sell, but it can be done to a DE shaver. 'lectric guys or those using disposables or cartridge, not so much......
