    Hi To All,
I just signed up here, after reading many posts for the past couple of weeks, and you guys seem to be very friendly, honest, extreamly knowledgable and have a great support system for each other. I am 43 years old and live in Miami Fl. I have never used a straight razor but have dreamed about it for years, I remember going with my grandfather to the barber in the late 60's and 70's where they still used it and I will never forget the smell of the shop and sound of the razor on the back of my neck. I use a silver tip badger from shavmac and soap but have used the mach3 for at least 7 years now (and recently bought the fusion).
but now is the time to learn the straight razor. so I will need all of your help.
I am going to go to The Art Of Shave for a royal shave ($55.00) a gift from my wife for Valentines day. (I know its steep and I'll never do it again) but since it was a gift that I did not expect ,I'll sit back and enjoy it. I have written to Tony Miller to purchase what I will need to get started and maintain the razor and I have purchased the DVD from another member here as well.( I have also seen Lynn's video which was great! What a collection he has ! awesome!!). So lets see what Razor Tony will set me up with. I can hardly wait! I currently own a dovo mamoth Ivory limited edition, but I only look at it, I don't think I will ever use it. I'm so glad to be a part of this great forum, with such great people Like Lynn and Tony, and I'm sure as I read on many more out there who I'm not familier yet with. please forgive my ignorance and my apology for not knowing you yet! But I will take everyones advice here!!
    Thanks again,
    Caesar N.

    Caesar,

Though I'm not far enough along to give any real
advise I will at least welcome you to the forum.
Tony is a good choice in purchasing a razor as
it will come to you shave ready.

I wish you luck in your new adventure and am sure
    that you will do well.

    Regards,

    Terry

Welcome...you have all the tools you need to learn the art. Desire, and our interest in answering any question you might have. Soon we'll have you pulling out that little gem you've got hidden away and shaving with it; I'm sure.

    Caesar,

The only thing I would like to add is patience. It takes a while to get it down just go slow and welcome to the group.

    Caesar,

Welcome to the group. As a newbie with a whopping total of 5 straight shaves under my belt, I can attest to the fine products that Tony offers. ClassicShaving.com is a good source for other things like soap, towels, and other shaving stuff for the newbie.

The best advice I could give is to take it slow and don't get disappointed if things don't work perfectly right off the bat. It takes time.

Lately I have been specializing in the strops and basic razor in my sets. I probably won't be stocking more fancy razors other than the few left on hand. For more fancy choices in razors I suggest either John Crowley's Shaving Shop or Classic Shaving.

John pre-sharpens his razors and Lynn does those from Classic Shaving as well as mine from now on.

Do that and you'll end up with Multiple Personality Disorder as we do not all always agree. That's a benefit here though as it give you a chance to start thinking 'out of the box' on these issues, or at least out of YOUR box. We all biuld them.

You can't go wrong with Tony's gear. I look forward to hearing about your steady, safe and enjoyable progress. Welcome.

    Welcome Caesar.

I am willing to bet that once you get comfortable with a straight razor you won't be just looking at that DOVO limited edition.

Not necessarily everyday but you'll try it .

Welcome to the group. Let us know how that straight shave goes and what kind of products they use on you. I've never had a straight shave (on my face, many on back of neck) and I'm curious to find out if they use a hot lather machine or cream/soap with a brush.
