Default Just Got a New Dovo In

I bought the Dovo Ebony/Silver Steel model from Classic Shaving. Just a little stropping, and it'd pass the hanging hair test. Also rehandled my Timor with white Micarta scales (also from CS). It looks awesome now. I had set it too close to a room heater and warped the scales after having it about4 days. I think I have a better razor now., and I really like the Dovo. Those two, along with a Boker Red Injun 5/8 and a Filarmonica Doble Temple 8/8 (used rarely) are my shaving rotation right now. Next month I'm going to try and get a Dubl Duck from somebody and send it off to Lynn (along with one other) and have them professionally honed.

What exactly is Silver Steel? I mean, I take it it's an alloy, but what is its composition and properties?

I have no idea. It's probably Sheffield carbon steel (I think Sheffield was the first to use the term, but I'm not sure). I just finished shaving with it, and it did super. I also used my new badger brush and Bay Rum for the first time, too, just having gotten them in yesterday. It makes a world of difference, and a more enjoyable shave. They probably call it "Silver Steel" as advertising verbiage. I mean polished steel is silver.

I stand corrected. I looked it up, and Silver Steel is a carbon steel alloy with a very small proportion of silver in it. Silver is a natural antibiotic, so it might aid the steel in some way. Probably not, but I guess anything is possible. Odd things you never think of change the properties of steel, even in small amounts. I bought it cuz the guy at classic shaving recommended it as a great shaver. After using it today, I'd have to agree. I didn't even hone it any, just stropped it 30 round trips, and it shaved smoother than any of the others I have. I couldn't find an exact compositional analysis of it, but I'll keep looking.
