Default Packing a straight razor for airline travel in checked luggage

Ok, well luckily I won't be flying for 3 weeks, and hopefully my straight razor will come from Lynn in the next week or so, which will give me a good week or more of shave time before I fly again.

Now, once I start flying again, does anyone have any recomendations so that when I travel and check my luggage, I can pack my straight razor without fear of it getting damaged or the blade getting dulled by the constant movement?

Am I going to be screwed, or do I have options? Keep in mind this will be a weekly occurrence.

As long as you pack it securely, damage should not be a problem. My biggest concern would be theft. It is my understanding that checked luggage can no longer be locked? Just know that if you are not checking your bags, be prepared to leave the razor in someone else's hands.

There are a lot of protection options. I have a BL that I use for travel, it comes in a steel case. Thats a Bergiesher Lowe, from Classic. For other razors I usually put one of my gf's hair ties around the blade to keep it shut and put it in a razor coffin and shove it in my shaving kit. Works pretty well, but some coffins need to be taped shut. I sometimes put the razor into a coffin (the technical term for the box for a straight razor) and then put the whole affair into a hard shoe. I always travel with two razors, well not always but usually. I take a small paddle strop for trips over one week. I have one that fits into my Dopp kit. A barber hone would be nice for you to purchase for traveling just so you can practice while your away. You may also want to let us know where your traveling too. You might be surprised how many guys will let you stop by.

Maybe try wrapping your razor in bubble wrap. I've noticed that the boxes that straights come in tend to permit some degree of movement and would probably not be optimal for travel...

Checked baggage is randomly opened and searched. I've
had this to happen to me. You would be taking a chance
with a straight. You just might loose a razor to a thief.

I know, its a tough decision. But considering I spend 3 -4 days a week on the road, its either going to be shave with a crappy razor, or take a chance with the straight. I still havent made up my mind, but it just seems like a big waste to have a straight razor and only get to use it once or twice a week.

I do agree with you on that. If you can't use it
then whats the use. I guess if I were in the
same position I will pack the razor and take
the chance. And then hope like hell that it
was still in my baggage when I pick it up.
Just don't take your most prized or expensive
    razor.

Hmm...I only have one straight razor, and a bunch of DE's...so if I take a straight...it will be my most prized and most expensive!!

This is really the answer. I have flown with them before and no problem but I didn't take my favorite.

I just received my second razor on Wednesday, a Dovo Special 6/8
the other is a Genco I bought off Lynn. This is a really sucky situation
you are in. I would hate to take the chance and I would hate to not
take it. No easy answers to this situation. We do live in a messed up
    society.

PS - On the que site - their soap is under "other products" I
    believe.
