Bret Favre said he was retiring too!! I shaved with a DE at first and loved it but it was like driving an automatic (boring),then switched to the straights ( 4 speed/hurst shifter ) just more excitement!! But have fun shaving that whats its all about.

Enjoy your DE shaves! Just in case part of your troubles with
the straight was the sharpness of the blade, I'd recommend
that you take Lynn up on his very generous offer with that
W&B.

I'll second what everyone else has said. Remember DEs and cutthroats aren't mutually exclusive. A great many of us own and use both. I enjoy using my Merkur Progress.
If nothing else, the debate on SRP on all kinds of subjects can be interesting.
Good luck and pleasant shaving.'Living the dream, one nightmare at a time'

I bet you will still continue to use a good brush and a selection of creams/soaps? And have learned to stretch accordingly?

That Merkur slant is one hell of a shaver. There will always be a place in my rotation for mine. Goodluck and may your styptic pencil stay in your drawer doing nothing but gathering dust for the rest of your shaves.
