Default I'm retiring, I am now a DE razor guy.

It was a fun ride while it lasted, but I have found my shaving zen in my Merkur HD classic razor. I would like to exerperiment the slant bar razor to see if I can improve upon my shaves. I got the smoothest shave ever the other day with my Merkur 34c HD and I don't think there's anyway I could get a smoother shave (I'm talking BBS on every square inch.

Two weeks ago I tried shaving for 40 minutes with my sheffield razor, shaving my face very raw managing only to get a DFS, with a rough spot on my kneck and chin. To be honest I didn't particularly enjoy that shave, and actually rarely do when using a straight, however I enjoy shaving when using my Merkur. But atleast I got to explore this little niche and certainly appreciate the tastes and craftsmenship of those that do! I am now selling my razor and strop in the classifieds, and would like to bid farewell and good luck in your straight razor endevours!

Hey man, nothing wrong with that--if you found something you enjoy, go for it!

Sometime you should try a Futur. A fantastic piece of engineering, and a pleasure to use.

Nothing wrong with doing what works for you, and you could certainly do worse that the Merkur HD. I have the barberpole version and on a good day can match my straight shaves with it - fantastic razor.

Hope you change your mind about SR's some day, but otherwise good luck!

The next best thing to a straight IME is the Merkur Slant. Either the 37C, IIRC, or the longer 39C. One of those and a Feather blade will deliver the goods. Sorry to see you go but it ain't carved in stone and you can always come back to it. I quit shaving with a straight razor in the '80s and never thought I would come back but here I am.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

You will now be asked to leave the SRP forum. Guards show him outside.

    Default I'm retiring . . .

    My dear BYUTexan:

You made the right decision to bid farewell to the straight razor. You tried it and discovered it was not for you. It's what makes you happy as a shaver that really counts. If it's the Merkur, then proceed.

By the way, as you might know, SRP also has a double edge safety razor section, in which you are more than welcome to participate.

    Good luck to you.

    Regards,
    Obie

No reason to bid farewell, we are not str8ists around here, there is a good DE section also, and even if you use a quatro it is no reason to give up on a wonderful online community like this, since we havent given up on you.

Enjoy your shaves, however they may come. Once you find no more room for improvement in the DE shaves, you'll be back.
