    JL,

Worst case scenerio, you can start practicing now with a butter knife and a belt. Focus on turning the bladle over on it's "spine". Not exactly the same, but the arm motion will be extremely close.

Great advise, I to recieved confirmation from Tony that my strops and razor are on its way as well. I'm practicing right now.question : as the razor is being stroped should the entire razor blade incl spine lay on the strop as it moves or slight angle? and how much pressure if any? getting a bit nervous here, I have been watching videos, but after seeing Lynns , it looks like he was putting some pressure and what about speed? I'm sitting here at work with a plastic knife and stroping on my leg ( if someone walks in on me now, they will think i'm a freak!)Thanks

    Nun,

The entire blade should lay on the strop. Just like in honing, the spine keeps the edge at the proper angle. In Lynn's video, he comments about the sound and the fact that he is not applying pressure. Don't expect to be as fast as Lynn is...it's not about speed, it's about angle and technique!

Most razors won't entirely fit on the strop so you should be using an x pattern. Keeping the razor perpendicular to the strop (no angle) gives the best results I find.

Speed is a no no . It is a byproduct of immaculate technique. That will take time to accomplish. My old barber, Jim told me that fast stropping was necessary to waqrm up th fins on the razor so that they respond to the strop. I use linen instead. Safer and works just as well.

That is why I got the xtra wide strop. Much easier. no X pattern needed.

I was not a fan of 3" strops till lately. Now it's all I use. I still like the X-pattern on a hone but on the strop I prefer the wide ones now.

JL bought a 3" from me so won't have to do the X on that one. he also has a pasted paddle coming to keep that Lynn sharpening job in top shape down the road.

Does that mean you'll be adding a 3" strop to your business inventory?

Tony's got 3" strops on his product listing. I'm probably going to be getting one soon. Not sure what kind of leather I want (or need) though.

I'll keep my Dovo 17" 1 3/4" strop for travel.

Tony, how about the stroping on the prepasted paddle? x pattern or is that 3in wide also?

The pasted paddle is not 3 in. I think Tony mentioned that because it was solid wood, the 4 paddle strop would be too heavy. I think he did mention that he had a 2 sided 3" pasted strop.
