Red face Just won a couple of eBay Razors: Requesting Input

These are two of the highest bids I've made on eBay razors, so I don't feel too bad about shelling out the cash. I had been eyeing Dubl Ducks and the De Pew's razor whenever they came up, and now they'll be headed my way.

First, "The Perfect Razor," with the extended monkey tail - Item #6606331120. The razor collector at that site has one that looks to be in rougher condition for 85 bucks. I saw another one go for 70 - 80 on eBay about a month ago. So I think my winning bid of $41.05 was pretty good. What do you think? :/

Then there's the Dubl Duck Goldedge - Item #6606329871. Totally impulsive, as I was waiting for the other razor's auction to end. I put in a maximum bid of $25.00 and got it for $22.75. I saw the chip in the blade and couldn't tell if there was honing wear at the toe of the razor, but figured I could definitely polish it up to a shine, at least. Plus, the scales look to be good condition.

I'm hoping I can hone that chip out and turn it into a good shaver and I'm wondering if you guys have done similar restorations?

Nice catch on the Depew. I was sniped last week on this one:

It went for $53.95 Still can't forget myself for bidding 90 seconds before the end of the auction. I don't know what went wrong but must have mistyped the time of my bid when I setup by sniping program .

The DD looks like it has a substantial nick but I have honed out ones that size. The rest of it looks great and should clean up very nicely. Great price, very good catch.

Nice. I'm glad to know it can be honed out!

Do you know anything about the history of these long tanged razors? Mine doesn't seem to have the etching on the blade, as some do. Whether that's because someone went to work on this thing with a grinder/polisher (it looks a little too shiney) or because it's a different make, I don't know.

It says the patent is for 1882 (Exactly 100 years before I was born, which I like), but for how long were they manufactured? Some site said that they never really caught on with shavers and went out of style quickly.

I don't know if yours had etching but suspect that it did. Your tang looks a bit narrower so it is not identical to the one I lost but Bill has one like yours on his site and it does have etching.

I heard they are not for everyone so they did not catch on.

Yeah, it looks as though someone went to work on it with a grinder/polisher and got rid of the letters that were engraved. It looks nice, though.

    Angry So That Was You

I was going to snipe in at $45, but I missed it by a few seconds.
Congrats. I'm really keen to play with smaller blades. I've got a lot of tight turns to pull off every day.

Sorry for your loss, xman. *Pats back*

I know how it feels, though. I've lost a couple of final second bidding wars for this razor, myself. If it makes you feel any better, my maximum bid for this razor was $62.00, so your $45.00 would probably have lost.

I hope it looks okay when I get it. There's a lot of glare and shine from a light source that could be covering blemishes. The seller offers a money back guarantee, though. I'd probably just post it on eBay myself if I wanted to unload it.

I hope it shaves well for you, Blade Wielder.
