Speaking of Method Shaving, has anyone read the huge paper regarding the Roberts Method of Wet Shaving on the methodshaving.com site? If so what did you thinK?

Rick, if I understand correctly, you're still using the DE. Before going cross grain, try getting down to a lighter beard. You can do this by doing two light with-the-grain passes instead of one big one.

Don't assume that NS is with the grain on your face. For most men the grain reverses below the jaw. Check your face. Also, go to my gallery and have a look at the PDF file on neck irritation.

After you've read Roberts' writings for a while things like that don't surprize you.

On that DVD you'll find an in depth review of method shaving.

BTW, the DVD is for all wet shavers.

    Joe,
Thanks for the advice. I just took another look at your PDF file; I had seen it before. I think my beard goes NS on the cheeks, then turns 90deg on the neck (from throat to ear). I could be wrong, but that's worked pretty well on the with-grain passes so far. Randy pm'd me yesterday and I think he was right, in that I probably didn't have the proper angle on the razor. (I probably didn't do several things right!). I will take your advice and do two very light with-grain passes. I'll let you know tomorrow how that goes. Today, I took Randy's advice and only went with-grain once.

    Default P.s.

I just realized the "HMMM" smily ( ) looks like he's checking his grain direction, or how close his shave was.

    Rod,
I read a shorter article by Brett (I think); only 15 pages! Personally, I don't care for it. Keep in mind I only read the one article once, but it seems like too many things are involved (between the cube and the cream and whatever else), there's too much mashing of my brush, too many passes, too much time, etc. It's just too methodical for me (and I'm an Virgo and like being anal-retentive about things ). It's like saying that one diet will work for anyone. Everyone's face is different, BUT it may work for you and may be worth a try. Just my opinion.

Interesting PDF's Rod. More things to experiment with tomorrow.

I got a particularly good shave today (#4) but my neck is still raw.

The Method shaving looks interesting and may be worth a try down the line--I am just learning my angles and how to handle the blade right now (Hope my DVD comes soon).
