Default First Shave with a Straight Razor

Well I got my Straight Razor in the mail today so today I tried shaving with a straight razor for the very first time. Id have to say it wasnt the greatest feeling in the world though I havent shaved in a few days so my beard was alil long. So Im not going to judge yet!

Though I must say it does feel kinda cool shaving with this big sharp ass razor Only thing I think im going to have a problem with is shaving the left side of my face. I cant do jack Sh*t with my left hand.

Hi and congrats on the first shave.

This is probably your worst shave and you made it through. I can't stress enough to you, following stropping, the angle of the blade is one of the most important aspects of how the shave will feel.

It is very common to use too steep of an angle, which means more pressure, which means more razor burn and possibilites of nicks. If you feel the blade tugging, drop the angle. When it is correct, it should feel like the blade is not really cutting but gliding over the whisker. In actuality, it will be cutting. Then rinse, lather and use the next pass to reduce more.

Remember, you are doing beard reduction, not beard removal. No one pass gives you the BBS. It is the accumulation of all the passes.

Again, congrats and keep at it. Have you chosen your aquisition disorder yet?

Yes. I can hone my own razors, and I rotate through my razors.

Beard reduction was mentioned above. Very important! Especially if your beard is longer, during the first WTG pass or two you might have to lay the blade down close to the skin, less than the average 30 degrees, and lop off a little bit of beard. Since it is at a greater angle, cutting thru more hair, it might take a little more force to "beard reduce." But, get it cut down close to the skin, and it is amazing how much "sharper" your blade becomes!

Hang in there! BBS is in the mail...
