    Default Washington DC Shaving

I'm a newbie and trying to find places around Washington, DC that have shaving supplies. There are a few places like Art of Shaving, but I'm trying to find TOBS, Penhaligon's, etc. and don't know of any stores that carry them. Also, does anyone know of antique shops or flea markets that might carry razors, brushes, strops, etc.?

    Thanks!

[Edit] Is there a place with straight razor-friendly shops listed by geographical area? That would be a great thing for the wiki, if anyone has more knowledge of them than I do.

Flea Markets an Antique shops are hit and miss, heck one shop close to me keeps telling me that they are a "Ladies" antiques shop, the mens antiques store is on the other side of town LOL

I don't know about the other RAD sufferers on this forum, but I guard the locations of my "honey holes" from possible invasion from all competitors both foreign and domestic. All of these places are public and I'm sure there are a few more razor hunters in my area, but I'll never say, "There are some nice razors coming through Joe's Antique Shop in Hooterville lately."

Being a former Southern Maryland resident and an inveterate plunderer of flea markets, yard sales and antique stores, I have prowled your area every weekend from Baltimore to Richmond. You live in a great area for searching out old shaving gear. Get out your Yellow Pages or search the internet for flea markets and antique stores. Downtown Fredericksburg is loaded with antique stores, Alexandria is a good place. In So. MD. there used to be good hunting around Hughesville, Charlotte Hall and St. Leonard. You may have to burn some gas, but it's beautiful country and it's worth the trip just for the scenery. Good hunting!

    Regards - Walt

Personally, I found that last post kind of harsh(to be polite). I'm happy to share any info... as soon as I find some. There really is nothing downtown. I've been scouting N.W. for razors to no avail.
Rodman's drug store had a great selection of creams last week. I went back this week, and they seem to have offloaded a lot of product. Try for their next shipment. I missed it by 3 or 4 days.
Rite Aid's got this cream called "the real shaving co." That's pretty good. Not expensive. I've been more interested in soaps, and my research tells me everything is online. With the exception of VDH and William's, Everyone around here buys the crap in a can. It's disappointing, while wet shaving may be on the rise, DC is slow to take hold.
Send me a message, we can try and pool our resources.

L'occitane is in Fair Oaks. I have not tried their soap but here is a thread: http://straightrazorpalace.com/soaps...ade-users.html

DC has a few places for shaving stuff. There is the Grooming Lounge in Tysons and downtown. They have a decent selection of software, but pricing is not the best. Rodmans has carried quite a bit of stuff. In Old Town Alexandria, there is a store called Patrick's that carries Santa Maria Novella, Jack Black and Edwin Jagger. A short drive away, in Charlottesville, is London's Bathecary which carries the full range of Penhaligon's, D.R. Harris, Acqua di Parma, TOBS, Trumpers and Czech & Speake...

That's just off the top of my head.

This thread is several months old but I thought I would reply to see if you guys have come across anything new in the area. I'm new to both the forums and to straight razor shaving so I was wondering if there were any local shops that specialized in this art. Particularly, I am interested in a place that would sell used/vintage razors and strops as well as tools for maintenance ie stones, etc. Being new, it'd be nice to talk with someone in person and be able to get in-person advice.

I've bought from / been to Art of Shaving but the staff's experience seems to be limited to selling the product, not maintenance, etc. When I asked about sharpening they directed me to Williams Sonoma for sharpening.

Hello, I'm getting into straight razor shaving, but would like to get some training before I rearrange my face. Does anyone know a barber in Washington DC who gives instruction? Thanks.
