Thanked: 0Looking Forward ...but with Caution...
Hello all...
Let me just say this is a great place...so much to learn, its awsome. I'm looking forward to getting my straight razor and shaving... I have been using a DE for the last 2 weeks, and today i cut the Sh*t out of my face.. I was trying to go quickly and moved the razor to the side by mistake..took a good chunk out, the styptic thing didn;t do anything but burn...! blead for a good 10 min... its all about direct pressure.. thank good i just re-certed on my CPR and First Aid...!
Hopefully with the straight i won't try to hurry, if i do i think i will need more than direct pressure with that thing...!!! LOL ahahahh!
Thanks for all the info here... and still trying to learn...

Welcome
I'd say that's a valuable lesson learned the hard way. Remember, prep., stretch and care. Without these you could do that again.
Here's wishing you many safe and happy shaves well into the future.

Hurrying is the last thing to do with a straight. I learned early on that if you can't devote the time for a good shave without rushing, just skip it. Stretching the skin & good prep is at least half the shave.

I shave daily with a str8 and let me tell you go slowwwwww. After you have done it a while you will pick up a little speed. I takes me about 20-25 min to do a double pass. I have done one of those major bleeders though, no fun. Welcome.

Thanked: 4True dat! I'll break out the Schick Hydromagic injector if I'm in a real hurry. Then it takes longer to lather up than to shave. I try to make sure I have enough time for a real str8 shave, but sometimes...

Ted,
Please by all means take it slow, these things are sharp and can cut a pretty good gash in a heart beat. As all have said slow down and ENJOY. I know you will but had to put my two cents in.
Robert Lampo,
That avitar of yours makes me laugh every time I see it, pretty clever.if anything has been abnormal for a long enough period it then becomes normal.

Ted, I cut myself more often with a DE than a straight because I am in a rush when I shave with the DE. Welcome to the club and remember too pull the skin tight and the ears out of the way.

Mr. Watkins, glad you like Jack too. He's a sick bastard in that film - but comical at the same time.Last edited by robertlampo; 03-15-2006 at 03:39 AM.
