Default It's been a while and I need help.

Hi ladies I know I have been MIA for some time now and I apologize. Things have been crazy here. Anyway, my husband "Mudkipz" just left for Basic Training, in the Army. I want to get him a razor for graduation. I want it to be special but I can't spend a fortune on it. I am looking for ideas, so let me know what you can come up with.

Hey lady! welcome back. We might be able to come up with a few ideas if you provide a ball park budget. I will keep your hubby in my prayers

Thank you for the welcome and prayers. Ummmm I am looking at something like $200-ish (+/-). I know it's not much but being in school I only get so much grant money hehehe. He will graduate at the end of Aug and I will have my grant check by Aug 10th.

Edit: It doesn't have to be a razor, I just want something he will cherish.

OK, here's a couple of ideas

Revisor razors are really nice. You can get one straight from Revisor. The one I linked below will be around $125.00. You can PM Thomas the CEO from Revisor here his name is Revisor... clever huh?? And let him know your price range and he can come up with some options for you.

    6/8

Or you can contact some of the guys here who do restores to see what he may have available in customs. You can get some nice ones at good prices. They are in the vendor section

Custom restores can be a really good way to go and doesn't have to seriously hurt your pocketbook

The new Bokers and straight razor design are pretty good too.

Otherwise I would say keep an eye on the classifieds here closer to the time when you are expecting your check.

I think you shouldn't have too much of a problem finding something for the hubby. You need to know what size and type of blade he likes to make an informed decision though

It's been a while and I have forgotten what they are called but he likes the big blade and square pointed ones.

Is Max still working his magic?

OMG that makes me sound so stupid. I have to go read the forum and brush back up on all this info/lingo.

Depending on the set you might be able to get him a razor and strop set from SRD in that price range. The dovo special that is up not with a 3" premium leather strop is under $200 and both should last a lifetime.

Another thing you could do is a scuttle maybe... they can be almost heirloom type items.

Ok now away from shaving stuff... Considering what he is doing and where he will likely spend some time there are a few items that you might want to consider.

A really nice, heirloom type pocket knife. Sometimes you need something other than a survival knife and a knife can be a very special item to a guy and they last forever.

A pocket watch can have a picture put into it similar to a locket. In a combat zone a wrist watch may be a no no. A well made watch will also last forever, be sure it is waterproof though. Something that shows multiple time zones would be nice.

Is he a smoker? A good lighter can be a nice thing to have and if he ever gets stranded could even save his life.

So that is my perspective from a guy

Dustin thank you so much you have wonderful ideas. His dad is covering the pocket knife and I got him a nice leatherman tool. I will keep the pocket watch in mind because you are right it may come in handy. He quit smoking some years ago but he still carries the zippo I got him.

Ok I was surfing ebay and I like the look of the Wade & Butcher Special in the 6/8" That is one style he likes and from what I remember he loves the barbers notch on blades as well. I think I am going to just keep looking here and see what I can find and talk to Max.

I really like the top center in this set but I can't read it to know what I am looking for.
