Thread: Just finished this straight razor stand

That is nice. One thing that occurs to me is that holes might be better than slots at the top. A guy reaching for one carelessly could knock another one out of the rack. Nice though.

I really like the simplicity of the stand. One thing I would do for a future one is to widen the base so the dimple where the monkey tail sits is out in front of the slot. That will allow the razor to sit at an angle an be less susceptable to falling forward out ot the slot.

I'm going to try that with a power drill and see if I can cut smooth elongated holes for my next attempt. It will be tricky though (the slots are easier to make and smooth out).

I'm going to experiment with making holes with spade bits and see if I can make those instead of the slots.

I like your design, but it seems a little topsy-turvy to me. Maybe it's just me, but I store my razors with the broad, or toe, side down. It seems that balancing the razors on their monkey tails would make them top-heavy and more apt to fall if the stand is accidentally bumped. Also, the blade might fall open if a razor had a loose pivot pin. Just some thoughts . . . . .

Excellent work! However, I would recommend, as said before, using holes at the top rather than cut outs so that the razor can't fall out, OR open while sitting there... I prefer to store a razor tail up, unless it is secured closed...

For that very purpose, the base board is twice as thick as the top board, thus giving it stability. I have just purchased some spade drill bits so I can start drilling holes for straight razors rather than cutting slots. I mainly went with slots as to give it versatility with DE razors, but now that I have the proper tools, I can make them with slots.

i would suggest if you would make whole or cut not to match (not being in a raw) it may look a little better. just suggestion.
in this case Blade will not cover next one from side view.
