Default Why I Love This Place

Recently, I realized that this site is one of the few places left retaining the knowledge of a bygone era. It was really brought home to me today when I went the barber shop. A real barber shop, not some mongoloid "cosmetologist" gathering place. A real barber shop, where old men hang out, gossip, and that smells like Pinaud Clubman talc. It was sad, though, because this barber shop didn't offer a straight shave. Another one nearby does, but this one doesn't. I asked why, and the younger of the two barbers inside said that 1) there's not much call for it anymore, 2) he's afraid of getting sued if he were to nick somebody, and 3) he didn't feel comfortable with it. A barber who doesn't feel comfortable shaving a customer?!? WTF?!? It's a sad statement when the keepers of an art almost exclusive to well-groomed men doesn't really remember how to do it. That brings us to this place...I don't know if anyone here is a barber, but the knowledge here is phenomenal. With such a diverse group of people, scattered about the globe as we are, small bits of esoteric know-how get passed on. This place is like an online barber shop, where informations is passed back and forth, and knowlege preserved. I'm happy I found this place, and more happy about the fact that there are other people out there who like being well-groomed, who like smelling nice, and who have a place to discuss such things. Nobody here's been stingy with the knowledge they've earned. It's cool, too, because the b.s. information that clogs a lot of sites seems to get weeded out pretty quick here. It really is like an online barber shop that's open all the time.

If not for this forum and Lynn Abrams I would not be
shaving with a straight razor today. And I suppose we
should thank the Internet for making all of this happen.
For without the Internet this forum would not exist and
we would never have "met" one another.

Funny to think about actually, how something as modern
as the Internet is helping to preserve something from
    the past.

Hope this doesn't sound silly. Just a thought.

    Thumbs up

As sure as day follows night, there would be no way I could get such a quality shave with a str8 without SRP and the wealth of knowledge from the helpful members. The learning curve would be extremely steep.

I guess that means we all need to send a thank-you email to Al Gore. Didn't he say he invented the Internet in his younger days?

In seriousness, I have learned much myself, here on these forums. I am a firm believer that something can be learned from the person who is not the expert or has the most knowledge. We all pick up tips and know-how as we travel along, sometimes from the least likely sources. I hope one or two of you have benefited from my little expiational blatherings.
