Bearded straight shavers?

Hey guys, so here's the thing; I've been involved with wet shaving and straight razors for around 6 years now, and am otherwise obsessed with the hobby, even venturing out to make my own razors.. But for much of the time I've been doing it I've had a beard to some degree or other.... so the most shaving I get in is my neck and upper cheeks every other day Of course I've been clean-shaven for a portion of that time, but a beard just suits me better and so a basically never 'shave' in the truest sense of it. This is incredibly strange I know, but just figured I'd ask if anyone else here is in a similar boat? Perhaps I'm not alone in this craziness?

Yes in fact the beard is what started me down the straight razor path back in 1981... I grew my first beard and the barber I had at that time got me started using a straight razor... His statement was rather simple "Want straight lines??? use a straight edge"

I sport a goatee and stash and the straight lines(as Glen states above) got me hooked on the straight razor. The feel of a clean shaven neck and cheeks from a straight didn't hurt the argument either.

I've never had a full beard for long, or a goatee, because even when I was in my thirties it grew in salt and pepper. Mostly salt. I wore a mustache for decades though and used to trim it with a Wester Bros 4/8 until it wouldn't cut anymore. I figured out how to manage the trim with the gillette good news disposable so that was what I worked with until I came to the DE. After shaving with those for a short time I shaved my mustache just to have something else to shave. People say not having it makes me look younger but at this stage of the game that ain't an issue.

Ok, great - so I'm not alone on this, nice.
I may 'treat' myself to a full shave soon, but I'll have to convince my wife first... she really prefers my beard - isn't that supposed to be the other way round?

And Jimmy, I may be a bit strange, but I wouldn't mind a bit of salt and pepper, kinda think it looks cool to be honest, I've currently got a good few greys in the mix, quite ahead of my time actually, so perhaps my wish is being granted for better or worse...

Mike, you'll have plenty of gray before you know it. It isn't as cool then but it isn't a big issue either.

My wife likes it when I have a beard. Even though by now it's almost white. When I shave it off she tells me I look too much like my father. We compromised with the goatee so I can continue to scrape my face with the straight. I start having the shakes when I don't shave.

I also have a goatee and stash, with a coat of "Just for Men" medium brown for my wife.

Be careful of what you wish for. It doesn't take long from having a distinguished salt-and-pepper beard until the party committee at work is asking you to play Santa Claus for the kids at Christmas. Now that I've hit retirement age I'm considering shaving it off after thirty five years. The last time I shaved the beard off my 10-year-old daughter cried and my wife was ****ed because she thought it made me look younger than her.
