OK, a little update. Today I went to my grandma's house to visit her, and in the closet I noticed a mug with boar bristles sticking out. I thought, let me check my luck... I looked into the bowl, and there it was, Gillette DE Adjustable, nicknamed the Fat Boy. I knew my late grandfather might have used something like that, he liked quality...

So, now I have two Gillette's DE razors. Off to badgerandblade to ask how to dismantle and clean this little treasure...

No need to dismantle the Fatboy. But you should twist the knob at the base to open the head when cleaning, sterilizing, and lubricating the razor.

Here's how I clean razors I buy on eBay: I use an old toothbrush and some gentle toothpaste -- not the stuff with lots of abrasives for whitening teeth -- to clean the razor. Once it's clean, it can be sterilized. I then put the razor in boiling water for 15 minutes or so. Once it cools down, I submerge it in hydrogen peroxide for a few minutes. After that, i rinse with water. If the razor has moving parts (i.e., a Fatboy), and the moving parts feel a little tight after cleaning/sterilization, I submerge the razor (with its blade compartment still open) in a container full of mineral oil. After a few minutes, I remove the razor, check the moving parts for smoothness, then wipe off the excess oil.

Wow, 15 minutes in boiling water? What are you trying too kill? I just use some anti-bacterical soap and then your favorite metal polish too clean it up. Add a few drops of high quality oil from the top and a couple from the bottom and you should be good too go.

    Everything that anti-bacterial soap misses.
