Thanked: 0Picked Up A New Straight
I picked up a Hen & Rooster straight on ebay.
After buying a Pakislicer without knowing how poor the quality would be, I was looking for something like this that isn't quite great, top quality stuff, but not utter crap either.
I'm pretty happy with the purchase. Looked around online and the best price I could find other than the auction was about 42.
I figure I'm going to use the Pakislicer to get the feel of using the Norton 4k/8k I have on it's way to me, and then when I'm able to get the Pakistani to cut a damn thing, and have the technique down well enough, I'll start working on this one.
Then, once I'm really confident about my technique, I'm going to get myself a really nice, top quality Dovo or TI.
Figure I'll go in steps..
Here's what I picked up:

You may even want to keep it. It looks very nice and it should give you some nice shaves.

Hell yeah! I forgot to mention the part about keeping this one. Not sure about the Pakislicer, though! Heh...
Classicshaving.com just sent me a mail about the Norton stone I ordered, too. Apparently I should have it within the next 5 days....
Can't wait to be in business!
I'm getting damn sick of the mach 3, and the fusion. I actually came to find all of this wetshaving info out of frustration and irritation (figurative and literal, skin) with them.
Every time I shave with those damn things I end up red like a lobster under my neck and I can still feel a lot of stubble. I just can't get shaved with those razors no matter how I try to maneuver them.
I'm preaching to the choir though....
*Cheers* to new razors! Your new one from England should be coming soon, if it hasn't already, eh?
(I'm American, but I live in Buffalo NY right near the border, and friggin love hockey, so I figure I can pull off an "Eh" every now and again)

I have a Hen & Rooster just like the one you won (I paid a bit more for mine though - so you did well). Once I received it, I sent it off to Lynn to have it honed. It's a nice razor and shaves really well. I think you'll like it. From what I understand, these H&Rs are made by Dovo.

Yeah.. It could be here as early as Monday. However I don't see the scales I wanted to mount the blade on any more on classicshaving.com. I'm scared.
Edit: They're back. Must have been a website glitch.

Lookin' Good...
H & R looks good...and that seems like a fairly reasonable price...

I love Canada! Toronto is probably one of the only major cities I've been in, that I would want to live in. I would probably feel the same way about Vancouver.
I really do love hockey, I used to play quite a bit..got a scout letter once when I was about 18, but was too poor to do anything about it.
Edin,
Made by Dovo, eh? Very nice. I'm pretty excited about it, looks like I got a fair deal. If it shaves real nice and hones up well for me, I might just use that as my daily shaver and pick up an ebay razor in need of some tlc as a backup.
Firestart,
You'll have to put up some pics once you get those scales on there, I bet that'll be a sharp looking razor, pun intended
Jim,
Thanks! Hopefully....as little bleeding as possible, too!

People are probably want to dull the blade and then use it to flay my skin with it. Many are against messing with antique razors. However, it has a celluloid handle, not like it's some nice wood, pearl or ivory. And there's something I really love about satin-finished steel. However, I want to make sure my current score will be a nice shaver before mating it with new scales.
