Thanked: 1First Decent Shave
I had my first decent shave this morning. It was my 5th shave with a SR. I was using a Dovo Shavette and Tabac Soap. I did one WTG and one XTG pass. Still have some irritation but significantly less than the first four shaves. I used Witch Hazel after followed by a cold water rinse and then a cheap Gillette Balm. The balm burned more than the Witch Hazel, is that normal? I think i need a different balm. There were only two places where i drew enough blood to warrant the Styptic pencil.

Nice job! Just keep at it and it will keep getting better and better..!
The balm might burn if it has any alcohol in it, which will irritate the skin. I'd recommend something like Trumpers skin food. I love this stuff, and I really cant recommend it enough. Their sandalwood skin food is my go to balm, and I dont use anything else.
You'll find the burn from AS products reduces as your technique improves as well, as you'll irritate your skin less as time goes by.
Make sure you keep your pressure light as well, as this can increase irritation, and make sure you have a good lather to provide the proper cushion and glide. Remember to stretch the skin and concentrate on that 30 degree angle.
Good luck and keep us posted!
