    Hot water is okay. Even tap water that has been microwaved briefly is okay. Boiling water may cause the plug holding the bristles in the handle to come apart.

    The steam alone can do damage to the glue in the knot...

    If you have some hand cleaner around (Gojo and the like), you might give that a shot. I use the non-abrasive orange stuff, and it takes off most things.

    A couple of weeks ago, I purchased the synthetic Men U brush. This is a pretty decent brush, but a little pricey IMHO. Anywho, this brush has a bad odor as well. The scent is different, but bad none the less. It is going away using the usual methods of strong smelling creams and soaps.
