bmad is New to barber school
hey all some of you may remember my few posts and myself from a few months ago. Since I have joined SRP I have decided that instead of waiting for the factory to rehire me and then get laid off again when hard times happen, I decided to take a landscaping job and save up the price of tuition to a local barber school.
after three months of saving for tuition .. uh.. minus the price of one ski boat that I just could not pass up for some reason... I have started school in peoria barber college in peoria il. I am only in my first week but it is definitely a start and a good step for Bmad.
so now that I am not working seventy hours a week I think I can get back on SRP and continue sharing my adventures and adoration of my still newly found love of straight shaving and hopefully cutting hair.

Thanked: 1Congrats to you...
Bmad, reading your post brightened my day immeasurably. Good work taking the initiative and going out and pursuing something you love. If more people had your guts, there'd be a lot fewer unhappy people in the world. Congrats and keep us posted on your progress. And if you end up cutting hair in Chicago, you've already got a customer.

Thanked: 10Congrats!! I'm in barber college, myself. I'm attending in Merrillville, Indiana. Not too far from you. One of my classmates is from the tri-state area of southern Il.
Study the book and ignore all the drama that goes on in the school. If you don't have one in the chair, find a senior student and watch and learn. Ask lots of questions. The people I picked (migrated to) don't mind answering questions and helping. You'll see some who won't give you the time of day. No worries. You don't need them anyway.
Good luck. We've got several barbers around here. We need a barbers group around here! That being said, I rarely get to visit SRP very much anymore while in school. My school is over an hour away, so by the time I get home, I have enough time to warm something up, eat it, relax for a short while and go to bed.
Keep us posted on how you're doing.

Thanked: 24Congrats Bmad. Wishing you well on your new career. My son will start in a few weeks at a local barber school near St. Charles, Mo...and a local barber has already set aside a chair for him as he gets going. Good luck and enjoy the adventure...
