Dovo 6/8 Bismark
I am looking into buying a Dovo 6/8 Bismark in the near future. Does anyone have any experience with this razor? If so, how does the edge hold up? How does it compare to other razors on the market, (excluding paki-torture razors)? What advantages or disadvantages does this razor have?
Thanks all,
Mark.

I've heard people complain about the tang covering, but Bill Ellis recomend fixing it by cutting it of and wraping your favorite string or leather or silk thread or whatever you please in its stead.

X...are you talking about the Bismarck or the Bergischer Lowe? I didn't know the Bismarck had a covered tang.
mslovacek...I have no experience with them, either, but it's going to be my next new razor purchase. I think it's one of the most beautiful razors made. I have another Dovo, and it's a great shaver. I can't imagine this one's any worse.

I have the Bismarck 7 day set that Classic Shaving sells. They are vary good razors. They honed well. I've used them a number of times and they are holding a good edge. I normally use 5/8s razors, so I can't really give a opinion on how they compare. None of mine has a covered tang. Hope this helps.

DOVO Bismarck is great (looking) razor. I saw one in street kiosk in Greece, but they wanted 100 euro (~120$) for it. Nice heavy 6/8, decorated spine, also gold plating. Silver on the handles, and that circular heel cut. Lovely...

Thanked: 4942These are very nice razors. They are good looking and hone up well. Very solid shavers. I have honed many of them and like them. Actually I have both the red and the black in my permanent collection. Lynn

While I usualy go for TI razors the red and black Bismarks will eventually be added to my collection as well. I already have a white bone handle 5/8 square point Bismark which sems to be an oddball as Dovo does not have it in the current lineup. My dream is to get 6 more and have the handles scrimshawed with the days of the week in script on one side and my name on the other.
Be a nice heirloom to hand down some day (although I only have a daughter but I guess she could shave her legs with it <g>).
