Another Great Straightrazorplace Give Away!!

Well guys it's about time again for another straight razor give away.
We will be having a drawing on the .com site and we will be giving
away about 17 shave ready straight razors. We will have a sticky
thread for all the new guys who want to be included to list their
names and email addresses and then in a couple of weeks will draw for
who gets what. This time we have razors like a Dubl Duck Goldedge and
Geneva dedicated by Hal Wilson, a Trusteel donated by John Crowley
plus razors like a Griffon Carbo Magnetic, Genco Gold Seal, Pippin,
Korn and a bunch of others. These razors were donated to the cause by
Hal, John, myself, Rick Hantz and Richard Martino. Hope I didn't leave
anyone out.

This a rich tradition started at SRP for new guys to get to shave with
a honed razor. Our membership has always been known for how much help
we provide to new people and our generousity. What a great example we
have set and continue to live by.

I would also like to thank both David Wessell and AZJoe for their continued help in keeping this site up and running. You guys are awesome.

Wow, This is extremely generous. I did a similar thing with fountainpens on FPN. Gave up some prizes to get people motivated.

It really warms you to know that there are people out there who help for the sake of being helpful, I cant think of another group ( let alone on the internet ) who are this generous.

I just hope that one day I can pass a honed razor to a lil newbie, if my honing ever gets there that is.

I think JL and I signed up for straight university at about the same time, if we still count then being a part of the generous offer would be great!

We'll put the sticky up in a couple of days. Sticky=Post that stays on top for a while.....lol. At that point, there will be two weeks to sign up. Wow, this is an awful nice giveaway. Here I am just happy there is such a tremendous resource on shaving- and a free resource at that.
I know I speak for anyone and everyone ever using this site to answer a question, get some advice or just listen in as shavers wax technique: Thanks, srp is a tremendous boon.

I'd say that's especially anyone who hasn't yet shaved from a true Honemeister's honing. If that's you you should be expected to throw your hat in the ring.

Am I too "old" for an entry? I'm curious about Lynn's honing work but I only have one working razor so if I sent it out for a honing all I'd have left is that Pakistani... My hatchett is a better shaving implement than that.... avoiding profanity... thing :(

Edit: And I'd like to know what to aim for when my Belgian baby finally arrives from Vancouver in a couple of weeks ;)

On that note, I'd like to thank everyone who helped get me up to my current level, especially Nenad for giving me lots of initial advice and helping me pick out the Taylor and the duckling and X for more advice, going splits on the Belgians, a honing/stropping lesson and making my Taylor's edge nick-free :)

errr...Lynn gave me one of his razors...and he is currently honing a razor I purchased from classic a while back.

Hello all,

I will be tracking those who want to be in the drawing. I will collect names from this thread and from the "stickey" when it goes up.
This is really a good time for any of you who knows someone that would like to start but is a bit squeezed for cash to have them sign up here.
Its also a good opportunity for those of you who have yet to experience a shave from a well honed razor.

I know that we at this forum really do try to help the new people in any way we can. I do recall that some nice person sent me 11 banged up razors to practice on a couple of years ago( guess who that was!:)) and really got me going.

This evening I started honing a razor that I will be sending to Lynn to include in this giveaway, a Morris Colligate 5/8 3 pin.
The blade is in very good condition and the scales are OK.

There are no eligibility restrictions on this, but, if I may, can I ask for restraint if you don't really need a razor?

This is very unusual for any forum,the generosity and help in general makes this a grat place to visit. Would like to be considered for one of those razors,been practicing on a couple of ebay specials so very curious to what a real SR should be like.

damn....I'm too honest to say that I really need one...I've 4 razors that can be considered shaveable at the moment..... I can't help but wonder if one of the giveaway ones would be better than what I have now though.... How well honed are we talking about? Mine pass the HHT about 2/5 times....comparison?

Been lurking for quite a while, and enjoying the threads both here and via the Yahoo! group emails. Started in with a straight back towards the end of January. Still enjoying it, still learning a lot.

Definitely appreciate all the information this group has to offer.

I guess I dont NEED razor lol, but if there are any extras laying around after the give away, I'll be happy to add a 3rd razor to my collection :)

JL, I arrived about the same length of time before the last givaway that you did before this one, long enough to learn the ropes, shave with a master hone job and add a few choice blades to my arsenal. Not the perfect time for the giveaway, but just a perfect time to wish my timing were different. Them's the grapes and they're not that sour really.

I just e-mailed Lynn indicating that I want to play too. I am going to donate 6 of my seconds strops that are popular with the newbies. These are 2 1/2" x 24" red latigo with hanging hardware. Lynn and I are working out how they will fit into the giveaway and we are open to ideas to whether this should be a separate pool of names so guys can try for each (razor and strop) or just one or the other.

I like Randy's guidelines where hopefully needy newbies will be going after these instead of the well stocked veteran.

I have no plans to enter. When I receive the Case razor
that I ordered from Bill, I will be up to 5 razors, 6 counting
that Chinese razor. Not bad in less than 3 months.

This is way more razors than I ever hoped to own. Thanks
to Lynn and Bill for making this possible and all the rest
of you guys for all of your help as well.

I though I should log on and say hello. I am new to straight razor shaving and I am still trying to figure it out. I have one really cheap Pakistani razor that i bought from ebay which basically just rips the hair out of my face. I do have another coming which is from Tuckmar, supposedly never used. Last week I bought a paddle strop from Tony Miller. That is basically all of the equipment I have apart from a cheap brush and mug that I have had for a couple years from Walgreen's. I have learned alot from reading some of the posts on this site but I only discovered it this past weekend.

Well...I'm going to throw my name into the hat for this. I don't know if I'm qualified for sure since there's not exactly a definate set of requirements BUT since I only own one shavable razor that has been inexpertly honed by yours truly I would like the opportunity to give a go at a NICE razor with a GOOD edge for a change. I'm also hoping to come up with the extra dough this year to pick up a real strop since that's the last real piece of equipment I lack before making my shaving experience truly complete.

Therefore let this be my formal entry into this giveaway, and since I already HAVE a "serviceable" razor and passable technique if the judges of this giveaway feel I am already well set enough to not be involved I am cool with that too. I'll post in the sticky when it arrives too but there it is.

Oh I just saw the part about the seconds. That's very generous of you Tony! "Some" of us have to make do with the canvas from the cheap pakistani strop and a leather belt temporarily withdrawn from the wardrobe ;)

Having persuaded "her in doors" that straight razor shaving is more economical than using disposables, then having spent a few bob on a few straights, strop, hone etc..I'm sort of set up but there again I don't have my goodies yet so really I'm still razorless at this moment in time. So if I qualify for the draw it would be great.
Whatever the result it's teriffic to see such support and generosity.

Holy crap, dude. :eek: I've accumulated more than 50 in 2 months. That's how long I've been shaving with a straight. lol. Enter the drawing. I didn't get the label "honemeister" cuz I know what I'm doing. I'm just very loquacious, and ask a lot of questions.

Thats a lot of razors. :D I definately want more razors, that's
for sure. I just saw where they were requesting that unless you
really need a razor to let the newbies win them one. I do want
to get a couple more, or 3 or 4...... I suppose I'll just keep an
eye on Bill's page and snipe one here and there. Besides, how
may razors does a hillbilly from WV need? :)

WOW! I thought I was really accumulating razors, what with me having four in hand! Of course I've only been shaving with a straight for maybe three weeks, now, and three of the four I have are ebay specials that still need work. I guess I'm not as much of a fanatic as I thought I was! :shrug:

I have conversed with couple of folks on here, and will be saving my pennies to purchase another razor or three in the coming weeks, but I also think I'm going to see if I can send at least one of mine to one of the many really knowledgeable guys on here to have them properly hone one of them up for me.

Right now, I really have one razor that is fairly shave ready, and it's and old W&B 5/8 (I finally measured it) that I honed!<!> It really shaves well, though.

Yeah...I had to slow down. I'm selling off a bunch of mine, too, and trading some. Even gave a few away. Lynn said he's got over 300, but he's been collecting waaaay longer than I have. I finally figured out what I want to collect, so most of the others are being sold. I'll look for pieces that fit what I want to collect. I managed to accumulate some pretty nice razors pretty quickly, but too much of a good thing... Anyway, I won't be entering the drawing, but having gotten a few from Lynn, I can tell you they're worth every penny if you send them to him to be honed. Told me everything I needed to know about sharp, and now I can get my razors pretty close (well, some of them anyway :D)

Well since I became aware of the possibility of straight edge shaving a total of four days ago, then I guess I qualify.

This should be really fun.
