What it's all about...
I sell cars for a living, primarily over the Internet. That means I'm not involved with a lot of what the "regular" sales staff parpticipates in. However, a few times a year, we have offsite sales, and at least half of the regular staff is away from the store. When this happens, all salespeople work from open until closing, or as they call it here in Utah, "burn" days. This sale is a Thursday, Friday, Saturday sale. 6 years ago it wasn't so bad, but today, as my health "ain't what it used to be", and I am a bit older, this is getting tougher.
So, to my point. Tonight I came home, threw a load of laundry in the washer, filled up my mug with hot water and tossed in my Vulfix badger shaving brush to soak. Sorted through my cabinet and pulled out Taylor of Old Bond Street Shaving Shop shaving cream. For those of you who have never used it, the scent is described as "fresh Citrus is blended with the sophistication and ruggedness of precious Cedar and Oak woods. Add a virile undertone of musk over a floor of Sage and Rosemary and alluring Petitgrain for a lightly scented shaving cream that stimulates the senses and excites the emotions." Now, I've just completed a 14 hour day, and I'm tired, so rather than reaching for one of my straights, I grabbed my Merkur HD Classic, loaded in a fresh Merkur blade, and spent the next 20 minutes enjoying a wonderful shave. Hot towels, hot lather, and since I'm using a DE, not a lot of concentration. I finished three passes, and still had a bowl full of lather, so I ran hot water over the bottom of the bowl, reloaded my brush and relathered, finishing off with another hot towel. The aroma was intoxicating. The cedar notes are especially pronounced. I finally decided that the lather had to go, so I rinsed my face and finished off with Natureade Aloe 80, a scent free aloe gel. I didn't want anything to interfere with the aroma. It's been almost an hour, and I'm still enjoying the wonderful aroma of this fine shaving cream.
Okay, so the razor was wrong, but that is what a great shave is all about. The enjoyment. The ceremony. And the results.

Thanked: 8What a great way to unwind..I guess the fumes of an espresso and a cognac eventually overcame the cedar..
Gary
ps The Merkur was a good choice given the long day.

I can see why you are a salesman, I'm off to get some of what you had.

Randy,
You could be a writer. I want to run out and buy some of that shave cream.....
I guess that's a salesman for you.... Gets you to buy what you don't really need.

A guy in a checkered coat, who speaks 3.5 words of english and has a major case of B.O. could get you to buy another unnecessary shaving product, Rich. In all honesty:
1) We all suffer from that affliction (maybe we should open up a support group)
2) Randy's literary talent is admirable. It's good enough for me to appreciate it during my first of 3-4 cups of morning coffee.

Gents,
Thanks for the compliments, but no talent needed in describing a nice, enjoyable shave. Just state the facts. I'm fortunate to have a , er, vast amount of shaving creams and soaps to choose from, as well as a decent collection of straights and DE razors. Oh, and a number of brushes. After a year I've reached the point I don't feel I have to rush out and get the latest or newest product someone mentions. But I am glad that I did pick up the majority of the Taylo'rs shaving creams.

I really don't sell cars. I let people buy them. I show them their options and let them make an informed decision. No pressure, just like using a straight! And my way of "selling" works for me. A customer satisfaction index of 98 and one of the top two salesman in our store for 3 years running. Not bragging, cause I don't do it. It's the customers that make it happen.
