You wouldn't be the first to wear a weeks worth of growth in anticipation of the first straight shave. I'm one of the ones who likes the feeling of a good shave after a few days growth.

I say let your beard grow for a day or two. Let things heal and you will get a better shave. If you are going from a different razor such as a DE or atra or other, there will be a curve, but you will handle this with no problems. The biggest advise that I can offer is to take your time, experiment, keep an open mind, and find your way.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I have found that I get the best shave on the second day, but I also have to shave everyday. Sometimes, I can skip a day on the weekend, but most often I don't.

I was recently at a four day Living History event, and I didn't shave for the whole four days. When I returned and went to shave, I used a straight, and although the first pass left some stubble, after relathering, and then shaving as if I were shaving on a normal day, I got an incredibly close shave. My face really felt nice and smooth. I did nick myself once that day, but that was me being clumsy, and not anything else.
