Lynn captured the spirit of this thread exactly.
My grandmother took a jar of tomatoes she grew herself, some garlic, onion and olive oil and made pasta sauce that would knock your socks off. Using 4 simple ingredients. I still can't combine those 4 ingredients and get mine to taste like hers. Why the hell not?
Less technology - more skill - that's what this is all about. That is what makes this fun for the guys that get involved.
A rock and a piece of steel. Lynn can combine the two and get the damn thing sharper than most of the population of the world. Why? Less technology - more skill. More fun!
See - glass, ice, vodka, olive + skill. Less Technology - more skill - more fun!

There are many who agree with it and many who don't. Even among straight razor users on this forum there is a wide variety of approaches adhered to and scoffed at
Sometimes I like to play with different equipment and use extra shaving products and sometimes I like to keep it simple. The beard comes off regardless, so for me it isn't a matter of KISS being a necessary method to avoid some detrimental effect.
