Thanked: 324I'd check all government regulations on barber shops and shaving before giving much thought to any of the rest of it because I think that will be the biggest roadblock.

On another note, I forgot to mention that my barber shop also has a girl that does massages. I have never gotten one, but I hear they are quite good. Every time I think about getting a massage I think to myself..."Gee...I was going to spend the money on a massage, but I think I'll buy a new razor instead since I was goign to spend that money anyway!" 1 hour full body massage = $65.00 which is very cheap for this area.

You could probably get around some of the "rules" by making the establishment a "club". When I was first out of college I worked a 4-month assignment in Houston and quickly discovered the topless “clubs”… you paid a membership fee and were then allowed to enter and enjoy all the benefits. Because it was a “club” it was exempt from many of the nudity laws of the times. More recently I lived near a smoking club where cigar enthusiasts could relax, enjoy a good smoke, some wine, etc. … because it was a “club” they were able to circumvent the laws against smoking in a public place, etc. You could, of course, become a member of either of these “clubs” instantly if you were a walk-in.
You might consider NOT charging for barbering services... ie, your revenue comes from other services in the club. Then you could be exempt from many of the cosmetology/barbering mandates (for Calif, see Calif Board of Barbering and Cosmetology)... specifically the "act" pdf , para 7319(d)). I'd guess to make this work the name/focus of the establishment would have to be something other than being a "barber shop"... you'd have to get creative!Last edited by azjoe; 05-04-2006 at 04:43 PM.

JL, there are alot of Barbers in Denver. I was very suprised when i moved here to find them. Some do offer shaves some don't. BUT usually they all shave the neck at a minimum with a straight. I guess Denver is a big city with a small town complex. Bill, maybe you could consider opening a shop in Denver

Barbershp
I went to Arizona State University, and there was a great place on MIll Avenue simply called "Barbershop." It was a great place to go! Sports was the main topic of discussion, but really EVERYTHING eventually was spoken about. The deal there was that everyone brought liquor in. And well, we drank and BS'd for hours. There was usually a wait of at least an hour. (Good Barbers) I can tell you, there is NOTHING like being addressed by name when you walk in somewhere.
good talk, gabriel
