Default Straights on the History Channel

I got home from work today and turned on the t.v. and low and behold, they were talking about razors. They had a barber using a frame back razor to shave some one. He also demonstrated his barbers hone and his strop. He was using a Russian strop. Then they went on to discuss the disposable razor. Kinda lost interest at that point and decided to write this post.

Hmm that's very interesting. I watch History channel fairly regularly, but I haven't seen that. I did, however, see someone try to sell a straight on Pawn Stars. He said he saw some on the internet going for $200 and $300, so that's what he asked for the at the pawn shop; "what a moron" I thought. They gave him $50 for it haha!

Did you happen to catch the name of the program? I was just on the history.com site & couldn't find it. Would be interesting to see.

I think I saw that. I was watching a show about sharp blades. They talked about all different types of sharp things. If it was the same one I saw the barber flipped the razor the wrong way on the strop and used a finger on the toe of the razor when honing. I was thinking the researchers for the show should have come here first.

I caught part of it as well, something about edges. They also compared at how the design of English swords edge (concaved like a straight razor) would actually cause the sword to stick as to where a Japanese sword edge was concaved and would allow the sword to cut thru tissue better.

Yea I saw that pawn stars episode!..they asked him if the guy selling used it..his response was "I'm still alive"...so that's a NO...whatever..I called pawn stars and asked them how I could go about selling a well prices str8 razor..the pawn star employee replied "If it wasn't for example Abrahams Lincoln's razor" then there isn't much worthy value as far as desire and a profit goes for it..man I was a little shocked with his response

I'm sure there would be someone out there who is willing to sell them Abrahams Lincoln's razor.

I believe it was a show called Modern Marvels. It was an episode called Worlds Sharpest. The barber interviewed for the straight razor segment definitely stropped incorrectly, lifting the spine up, sagging strop.

I saw the show too. It was Modern Marvels and that barber did everything wrong. He honed the razor with about a 45 degree angle, honed only one side of the blade and used very little water. Both in stropping and honing, he whipped it off the surface with no regard for rolling the edge. My first thought was, "Is this guy really a barber?" My next thought (echoing ndw76's comment) was, "They should have called Lynn".
