    Default Custom razor?

I bought what I'm pretty sure is a custom razor off Ebay. It arrived yesterday. It's a 6/8 blade and says "Manufactured Expressly For" on the tang and "Epwin Goopwin" on the blade. The reason I think it's custom is that the grind is deeper on right side of the blade then on the left, and the spine is not completely perpendicular to the blade (see picture below, I hope the pics show up). It doesn't look like it's been honed. What you guys think?

    Richard,

That's a very interesting and unique looking razor. I really like it. Can you tell if it's very old or if it was recently made? The reason I ask is that I've seen very old 7 day sets that had the owners name on the blade. I imagine that these sorts of razors were custom made by a local smith for someone very well-to-do. It would be interesting to see if you razor is of that vintage.

The razor is in excellent shape and the only clue to it's age would be the scales. They look to be of recent manufacture (they look like a newer plastic), but it could have been repinned with new ones. I'd like to think this is a custom job, it's the flaws that give it character. I'm not sure when the frame back razors were popular.

Thanks Rich. Shhhh, I'm hoping fuel prices will keep people away from that Dorko. I've picked up a couple of nice razors lately for reasonable prices, and I think that might be a factor.
