    Default Schindlers List

The main character (mr. Schindler) and one of the Nazi generals both shave with a straight in it....unfortunately they both hold it on a 90 degree angle to their face.....s'gotta hurt that way.

Clint Eastwod makes the same mistake in Unforgiven and I recently saw it again somewhere else, but I can't recall the flick. I think the actors do that to feel "safe" with the blade. Kamataki, however features a real shaving angle in a modern movie. First I can recall.

I think that was the closest to looking real.

IIRC, in Reservoir Dogs, when Mr. Blonde does his "fake shave" (before he mutilates the cop with his straight)... he does it with a realistic angle. I'll have to re-watch that tonight and see.

Yea, it's definately not for the squemish. It does play very well into the character though.

Jodie Foster gives Richard Gere a shave with a straight in Sommersby (1993). It's a rather lenghty scene, if my memory serves me. I think she did a proper job of it, too.

I just bought the DVD and there are two other camera angles where you actually see the action. One is not bad, but the closeup obviously looks like a fake ear. You can tell the razor is a 7/8 full hollow and not a frameback as it apears in the previous shot. It's got some acid etching on it like the Stehlo's do so I wonder if it might be one of those. It really is a much more effective scene when you don't see it happen on screen at all. The scene selection lists that scene as "In A Cop's Ear", LOL.
