turkish hairdressers
Hi guys
Today, I talked to a turkish dude who owns a small grocery store around the corner. Basel, the city I live in, has a big turkish immigrant community (most of them are actually kurds, but whatever). He told me he'd be using a straight razor, as is pretty much anyone from his country.
He also told me that I can get a straight razor shave at any turkish hairdresser saloon. There are a lot of these in my town.
So who's saying barbers don't exist anymore?

I guess we you will find out if you go in and ask for a shave. That will be the true answer as to if they are still around.
However only if the shave is good, anyone can give a shave but only a true barber can do it right.

Thanked: 66I dont think ALOT of people say that..I can guarantee you in California or Los Angeles at least it is NOT allowed to use a straight razor to shave others as sanitary issues can arise..disposable blades..no problem..if there is a straight razor barber in Los Angeles, California..they could be using Barbisol or something like that for disinfection and didn't regulate with the county of health.
It takes a good set of "trained hands" to use a straight razor on yourself..let alone another "gent's face"

i've noticed that floyd's barbershop in los angeles uses real straights for cleaning up the back of your neck.. they have the blade sitting in a shot glass of barbasol.. i've just been in the place and not received a cut... but the razors look smallish.. at least 4/8 if not smaller.. i'm wondering what they use on the straight shaves they offer.. maybe it's worth checking into next time.
my barber uses a shavette

Thanked: 66I think his shop is in Santa Monica ca..driving towards 3rd st...I could swear u have seen it!...hmm..I wonder if the health guys turn a shoulder to them using str8 razors..maybe the barbers there tell em barbaside kills germs and nothing else matters..4/8 razors..could be good for maneuverability vs an 8/8 and having a customer passout by the size..

floyd's is a new chain that's trying to cash in on the "old is the new cool" gimmick.. their sign is fashioned to resemble a route 66 highway sign and the walls are covered with pictures of jim morrison and that guy from my chemical romance.. i even think their slogan is "old school, new style"... or something like that.. i walked in and the place reeked of superficial phonies. i recommend berkeley barbershop on santa monica blvd.. that place is genuine. but with all the old strops hanging off of chairs and the display of vintage brushes on the walls.. if you ask for a shave.. you get a shavette and a latherking..
eh.. what'ya gonna do?
