    Thumbs up Some recent acquisitions

Some straight razors found their way to my mailbox last week. The first is a real beauty that I bought on eBay from Bob Keyes (altima55 on eBay).

It's definitely shave-ready, as described in the auction. Mr. Keyes did a hell of a good job bringing this one back to life. The steel and the scales are gleaming. I'm also able to see and feel a properly honed razor. Delightful all around. You can bid on his auctions with confidence.

    The next one is interesting.

The Wellington box doesn't go with the razor, which is fine because the razor is a Wostenholm in superb condition. Very little work will be necessary to get this one ready for use. The scales, however, are another story. They also are in fine shape, but as you can see, they're mismatched. I have no idea when this was done (I'm guessing it was a long time ago), but one is black celluloid and the other is wood with a pretty nice grain. The pinning job is good.

I will use this razor as my first rescaling project. I'm going to use the existing scales as templates, make new ones from scratch, do the repinning, etc. The razor is in such good shape that it'd be a crime not to give it some due respect.

Nice acquisitions, Ben. I also have a Wostenholm razor. It's called a "pipe razor" - whatever that means . The ebay description mentioned a candle snuffer on the tang. I think it is indeed an inscription of a pipe.

    Thanks, Rob.

The words "pipe razor" were the ones the seller couldn't read. The rest of the nomenclature is fine though. I believe you're right about the candle snuffer actually being a pipe. Looks like an old fashioned clay pipe too.

I believe I was actually thinking about bidding on that one...decided not to because I already own too many razors within such a short period of starting Good for you though.

    Ben,

Those are some nice and very old razors. The Elliot is very cool. I'd like to have one with a notch someday.
