    I'm sure doing it yourself was not that common. Barber shops were pklaces where men often gathered to exchange gossip. They sometimes still are. The West Indian communities around Toronto have many barber shops full of loiterers. Once the Victorian erra was coming to a close I think that was starting to change though.

    We still have a knife sharpener drive down our street a couple of times a week with a bell sounding from his van/truck. I should stop him once and ask him if he still does razors lol.
