Thanked: 0Worst Shave Ever!!!
Hah, you thought I'm talking about a straight didn't you
No, after three official shaves with a straight, I thought I was officially hooked, but until this morning, I didn't realize how hooked I was.
I was fried last night, and this morning was a rush. I had a business meeting that I had to get to and three days of facial hair to get rid of. As of yet, I'm not good enough with a straight to finish in less than twenty minutes, so *shudder* out came the gillette.
Talk about pain. the pulling, the pain, the irritation, did I mention the pain?
WHY GOD, HAVE YOU ALLOWED SUCH A FOUL INVENTION TO BECOME POPULAR?!!!
Anyway, bottom line, if I don't have time to use my straight, I'm not shaving.

Probably a lot of the problem was that it was 3 days worth. A straight goes right through that like gangbusters! Also depends on which Gillette you're talking about. The fat boy on a 9 setting wouldn't be too bad; but one of the newer multi-blade (because you'll buy anything!) models would be pure hell. I don't like them for even a day's growth.

I think he means a cartridge razor. I set my Gillette HD (Fatboy) to 9 or beyond -- yes, it can be done -- drop in a Feather blade, and get extremely close and comfortable shaves.

It must have been a cartridge razor because I can get a pretty decent shave with my DE.

I've been enjoying a DE I purchased from Tony Miller. I can get a fairly close shave with it. Overall I don't think it's as close as a straight shave, but it handles some of my problem areas better than the straight. I can't imagine 3 days of growth with a Mach-3.

Thanked: 0Yeah, it's one of those new Fusions (what prompted my shift to straights) Mach 3 was just not feeling right, so I upped to their new one which boasted 5 blades (still can't figure out how that helps) Anyways, maybe it was the fact that I did no prep with hot towels and didn't make my witches brew of canned shaving gel and assorted other ingredients.
Either way, it will be remembered as an entirely unpleasant experience.

Those 5 bladed cartriges are a GREAT product! Here's the outline of the process:
1) The first blade removes the soap
2) The second one pulls out weaker-rooted hairs
3) The third one does a bit of dry cutting
4) The fourth one cuts some more and starts the process of skin removal
5) The fifth one, unaffected by any lubricants, gives the hairs a nice jagged finish and your facial skin the ultimate peel
6) The end-result: You remove enough hair to look relatively neat while your face receives a nice, healthy, all-American red glow.
7) For additional rich-red accents, use the ones with vibrating handles.
Enjoy!

Now I think that is really accurate description of what it does..

Heh, nice description. I actually picked up the Merkur HD a little while ago for those days that I can't take the time to shave with a straight. Works like a champ and I'm only on my fourth try with it.
