Excessive Edge Wear
I'm trying to post a photo with this:
Does this razor have excessive edge wear? It seems to me that there is a definite 'smiley face' edge.Last edited by tombuesing; 09-26-2007 at 04:08 AM.

Thanked: 2209It has been used a bit! It would be good for honing practice at the very least.

You can see that the widest part of the bevel is about 1/4 through 1/2 way out from the heel. You can also notice that teh spine wear corresponds to thet. This is evidence that a previous howner has applied too much and/or too frequent pressure at this location. Excessive, yes, but not insurmountable.
As for smiles, some blades are intended to be that way and I wish more were. That's my preference to hone and to shave with. They're easier in both respects. Make it a 7/8 for weight and it's in the realm of ideal. Wade & Butcher Sheffield Steel and nice wood scales and I can't imagine it getting much better. That must be why I like my 7/8 W&B so much.
