Measuring Razor???
How do you measure a razor to determine is size? See pic below:
A: The width of the entire blade
B: from the edge to the widest part of the back. i.e. the width between the 2 points on the blade that contact the hone
c: The hypoteneuse of a 90 degree triangle formed by edge and the rear contact point?
The difference between A and B is a whole 1/8 on my razors.
Thanks,

Actually, you measure the angle between the lower point of an arched edge and the heel, and cross it with the square of the angle of the high point of the edge crossing with the tang, all of that divided by 3.5, and layed perpendicular to the line that crosses the highest arch of the pivot pin, and the very end of the monkey tail.
Or, you get the same number when you measure the total width of the blade, which is marked B in your first drawing, and A in your second.

Thanked: 0Another option is to follow the curve as a part of the measurement.

At least one of my razors has a arched back so there is a difference of about 1/8" between A and B
Also, A is the back of the razor in both drawings and B is the widest part of the back in both drawings

Thanks for clearing that up. So 5/8 would be the A distance on your lower drawing.

It appears that the consensus so far is for A

I've always thought it was A.
