Thanked: 1Shaving brush clean up.
Does any one have any tips on cleaning shaving brushes. I have had it from new and it looks like it has seen better days, I just want to give it a clean.

You can put some shampoo in your mug and whip up a good lather, rinse & repeat, then finish with conditioner if you choose. You can also try a soak in Borax (check Wal-Mart with the powdered laundry soaps). ClassicShaving also has a packet of brush cleaner they sell.

Here's what came with my Edwin Jagger brush from Crabtree & Evelyn:
CARE OF YOUR SHAVING BRUSH
1. THE BRUSH IS STERILISED - IT SHOULD NOT BE BOILED.
2. LATHER LIGHTLY WITHOUT PRESSURE
3. AFTER USE - RINSE THROUGHLY AND REMOVE ALL EXCESS MOISTURE.
4. LEAVE IT OPEN TO DRY OUT - NEVER ENCLOSE A DAMP BRUSH
5. RINSE OUT THE BRUSH IN A MILD BORAX SOLUTION PERIODICALLY. THIS WILL HELP PREVENT MILDEW ATTACKING THE HAIRS AND GIVE LONG LIFE TO THE BRUSH.
You might follow the Borax cleaning with a little shampoo and conditioner to make it hapy for your face again.

What kind of brush is it? Badger or boar? Now you have a perfect excuse to buy a new brush.

Thanked: 1Its a Taylors Of Old Band Street Super Badger extra large. So I want to keep it going, its only 4 years old so there is plenty of life in the old badger yet
I will try the borax over the weekend. Then report back.

The next time you go to your barber (hairdresser/stylist) bring your brush with you, and wash it with his "industrial strenght" shampoo... It does the trick for mine Vulfix.

Peter,
With the Borax soak, use one teaspoon for one cup of hot tap water. I put the Borax in a mug, and then eyeball the water. I only fill to the base of the handle, then use the brush to mix up the solution. I soak mine for half an hour, stirring about every 10 minutes.
